Institutional Best Practices

The vision and mission of the College are reflected in its best practices involving student-centric effective teaching-learning process, faculty and student participation in social outreach programs, community-based practices, holistic and all-round development of students, student welfare and support, training and placement, women safety, anti-ragging, career counseling, sports promotion, research activities, quality teaching and so on.

Among all these, the two best practices of the Bakshirhat Mahavidyalaya are:

1. Building the societal linkage through the grass root level activities and practice to see the society as a laboratory

Objective:

To allow the students actively contribute their services for the cause of the community and the nation, thus helping them develop their personalities also.

The Practice:

The college NSS team (2 units) organizes Seven Days Special Camp for social service. They participate in various national, state and university level integration camps/workshops. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the volunteers distributed food packets & masks in various affected areas of Tufanganj Block II of Cooch Behar district of West Bengal and also spread awareness about preventive measures.

The College NSS Team (70 Boys & Girls) celebrates various important Days to spread awareness about different social issues as well as organize various one-day camps and other programs for social awareness like evils of dowry system, awareness rallies on social issues like plastic pollution, cultural performances, plantation, cleanliness programs, blood donation camps, health awareness and checkup camps etc.

Outcome:

  • Creating a sense of social responsibility that helps in bridging the theory-praxis divide
  • Helping the less advantageous section of society
  • Obtaining work-experience to find avenues of self-employment or employment

2. Provide Niche academic or Extracurricular focus through democratic and participatory Governance

Objective:

It aims at motivating students to excel in their areas of expertise and their all-round development for nurturing critical thinking, creativity and scientific temper among them. It would ensure continuous improvement in their performance as per the quality policy to achieve the Vision and Mission of the institute.

The Practice:

The College provides a plethora of activities for students that resonate throughout the year making the journey of students rich and meaningful. These activities involve an effective mentor-mentee system, ICT enabled teaching-learning, Remedial classes, Academic and personal counseling to the students, Book bank facility for advanced and needy students, expert lectures, seminars, workshops, personality development initiatives, Soft Skills Training, Study Tours, Sports activities, Inter and Intra college-level Extra-curricular Activities etc.

All the curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities are well managed by different cells and committees i.e. Training and Placement Cell, Academic and Co-Curricular Committee, Career Counseling Cell, Sports Cell, Women Safety and Advisory Cell, NSS etc.

Outcome:

  • Increasing number of on and off-campus placements and development of their entrepreneur skills also.
  • Became administrators, political leaders MLA, MP, Ministers of State and Central Governments.
  • Improvement in spoken skills, soft skills like confidence, positive attitude etc.
  • Getting admissions for higher studies.
  • Inculcating the qualities of leadership, team spirit, sportsman spirit among students through extracurricular activities.
